Born near Edo in 1807, Gyokuransai Sadahide was a gifted student of Utagawa Kunisada, one of Japan's most renowned woodblock artists. This vibrant compilation features more than a hundred hard-to-find examples of Sadahide's artistry, including prints of heavily armored samurai, battle scenes, and well-defended fortresses. Drawn from a series of volumes originally published in 1863, the dynamic images offer authentic views of warrior life during the Edo period.
